Namo Shetkari Yojana

The Namo Shetkari Mahasanman Nidhi Yojana, launched by the Government of Maharashtra, is a flagship initiative aimed at supporting the state’s agricultural community. Introduced in 2023, this scheme mirrors the central PM-KISAN Yojana, providing financial assistance to farmers and ensuring sustainable agricultural development.

Overview of the Scheme

The Namo Shetkari Yojana is designed to provide direct income support to eligible farmers across Maharashtra. Under the scheme, each beneficiary receives ₹6,000 per year, in three equal installments of ₹2,000, directly transferred to their bank accounts via Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT). This amount is in addition to the ₹6,000 provided annually under the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM-KISAN), effectively giving farmers a total of ₹12,000 annually.

Key Objectives

  1. Enhance Farmers’ Income: Provide consistent financial support to small and marginal farmers.

  2. Ensure Timely Aid: Reduce dependence on moneylenders and informal credit.

  3. Promote Sustainable Agriculture: Encourage investment in modern and eco-friendly farming practices.

  4. Empower Rural Economy: Boost consumption and development in agrarian communities.

Eligibility Criteria

To benefit from the Namo Shetkari Yojana, a farmer must:

  • Be a resident of Maharashtra.

  • Be a land-owning farmer registered under the PM-KISAN scheme.

  • Hold valid land records in their name.

  • Possess an active bank account linked with Aadhaar for DBT.

How to Apply

Farmers already enrolled in PM-KISAN are automatically eligible for this scheme. However, new or non-registered farmers must:

  1. Visit the official Maharashtra Agriculture Department portal.

  2. Submit required documents such as:

    • Aadhaar card

    • Land ownership proof

    • Bank account details

  3. Ensure PM-KISAN enrollment, as Namo Shetkari Yojana works in coordination with it.

Impact and Importance

The Namo Shetkari Yojana has the potential to significantly improve the financial stability of Maharashtra’s farmers, especially in times of climate uncertainty, crop loss, or rising input costs. It reinforces the government’s commitment to the “Annadata” of the nation and aims to bridge income gaps between urban and rural areas.

With agriculture being the backbone of Maharashtra’s economy, such schemes play a critical role in not just alleviating poverty but also in strengthening food security and rural livelihoods.
